Fitzpatrick Contractors have been awarded the contract to both build and maintain the highways in the Olympic Park, it has been revealed.
The construction company has been awarded the work by Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA), which said Fitzpatrick in particular was keen to keep employment local to east London; one of the large pressures on the ODA.
"Their commitment to increasing local employment is evident from the fact that 30 per cent of their workforce are from neighbouring boroughs," stated ODA chairman John Armitt.
Fitzpatrick will be commissioned to provide not only highways but also the entrance roads, approach roads and even footpaths, over a period of three years.
"Fitzpatrick Contractors Ltd has a sound track record of developing successful relationships with suppliers and contractors, and is dedicated to providing a quality service and value for money," added Mr Armitt.
"Health and safety and sustainability are integral in their organisation, and they will work hard to minimise the impact they have on the environment whilst maintaining good service."
The Olympic site is eventually to consist of 270ha, and Fitzpatrick were chosen from a shortlist of ''competitively priced'' tenders.
