German Energy giant E.ON has no plans to place a bid for nuclear power station operator British Energy, according to reports.
It was thought that the E.ON would be a serious contender for the nuclear organisation, which has stated that it is in talks with several parties over the future of the government's 35 per cent stake.
An E.ON spokesman was reported to have told FT Deustchland: "We have looked at the company and its power plants. We will neither bid on our own or together with others."
"E.ON never comments on market speculation and this remains the case today. We also do not comment on the article or the quote," said a spokesman for E.ON in the UK.
Paul Golby, the chief executive of E.ON in the UK, announced last month that the group had been in preliminary talks with British Energy over its sites.
Wulf Bernotat, the chief executive of E.ON also stated recently that his group does not currently plan any major acquisitions.
