Petra Energy appoints legal and finance directors

Kamarul Baharin Albakri of Petra Energy has set out the company's aim of strengthening corporate governance practices through its new board appointments.

Malaysia-based Petra Energy Bhd, an integrated oil and gas brown field services provider, has announced the appointments of Abdul Rahim Hamid and Ahmad Azra Salleh as independent and non-executive directors.

The company's executive director and chief executive officer Kamarul Baharin Albakri said the moves were designed to ensure the board is experienced and able to strengthen its corporate governance practices, the Bernama news agency reported.

"In fact, as the board is being reconstituted, we have also commenced on a restructuring exercise at the group's operating level," he commented. "This exercise, which is expected to be completed in about six months, is designed to further enhance the group's core competencies in the upstream oil and gas industry."

As the news agency observed, Abdul Rahim is a chartered accountant who currently serves as president of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants and recently assumed presidency of the Asean Federation of Accountants.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Azra is a practising partner of legal firm Messrs Azra Salleh & Co, a member of the Honourable Society of Lincoln's Inn in the UK and a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, London.
