Five construction companies have been lined up in the search for a contractor to build the Olympic rowing lake for the London 2012 Games.
Morrison, Carillion, Edmund Nuttall, Norwest Holst and Balfour Beatty have all been shortlisted for the job, which will include improvements to road works and the construction of two bridges at the 450 acre site.
Located at the Eton College Rowing Centre at Dorney Lake in Windsor, there is already a 2,200 metre rowing lake consisting of eight lanes.
Olympic Delivery Authority chief executive David Higgins said: "Eton Dorney is a first-class venue and the enhancements we are delivering will create the best possible facilities for the worlds best athletes to use in 2012.
"Securing a selection of leading contractors is an important step towards delivering these essential works."
It is likely the rowing lake will be keenly watched in the London 2012 games, following Britain's success in the rowing this year at the Beijing Olympics.
