The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) has announced that Carillion has been awarded a contract to develop the £400 million media centre for the 2012 Olympic Games.
Partnered with Igloo, Carillion will be responsible for carrying out the construction for the International Broadcast Centre and Main Press Centre, which will together form the Olympic media hub.
Following the games, the two areas will be converted into mixed use office and business space.
It is hoped that the floor space will create a recognised supply for high quality office space in East London, as the London Development Agency (LDA) has plans for the area to benefit from the wealth of business investments seen elsewhere in the city.
Tom Russell, group director for Olympic legacy at the LDA, said: "The importance of the project to our regeneration objectives cannot be overstated.
"In providing over 1m sq ft of high quality office and business floor space, it will lead the economic revival of East London, attracting high quality businesses and jobs to the area.
Celebrating the announcement, ODA chief executive David Higgins said: "We now have world class teams in place to deliver four of the 'big five' Olympic Park venues."
