The construction industry has been highly awarded in the Queen's birthday honours list this year, with several key figures in the industry being singled out for awards.
Architect Lord Rogers is to be the most highly distinguished, having been offered the title of Companion of Honour.
The title can only be held by up to 65 people at any given time, making a nomination one of the most sought-after in the country, and can only be awarded to those who have made an outstanding contribution to the arts, science, medicine or government.
Michael Finn, chairman of the Building Regulations Advisory Committee, was awarded an MBE for services to building standards and Environment Business Centre vice president at Jacobs Engineering group, Gordon Masterson, was recognised with an OBE for services to Civil Engineering, as was Elizabeth Robson, managing director of Robson Builders, for services to the construction industry.
The awards come at a critical time for the industry, which is trying hard to fight a suggested negative image among graduates, in order to recruit more talent while simultaneously combating higher green standards and rising fuel costs.
Speaking about his award, Lord Rogers said on Friday: "I am very proud to be made a Companion of Honour and grateful for the opportunity it gives me to raise awareness of the importance of quality in architecture and design," Lord Rogers said Friday.
"I would also like to thank all those people I have worked with in more than 40 years as an architect.
"This recognition is as much for their achievements as it is for mine."
