Accommodation need 'changes with business growth'
28 September, 2007Businesses need different accommodation at different stages in their growth, it has been claimed.
Philip Moody, head of member services at the Forum of Private Business (FPB), suggests that many companies are left in facilities not adequate for their needs.
The south-east is a "major problem" due to high rents and low availability of space, he adds.
Mr Moody comments: "The problem is that there are stages of a business's growth and their need for a certain type of accommodation changes.
"Often they have to make do with premises that are the wrong size for their needs."
Some of the problems in the south-east stem from the rising price of private property, he asserts, which has seen commercial costs increase accordingly.
But for companies elsewhere, the situation is less troublesome, with "quite a lot" of rented accommodation available.
The FPB campaigns for the fair treatment of businesses while supporting the profitable growth of its members.
